"I could not believe it. My ancestors treasured these mounds. They were sacred. No, they did not build them but they loved them, protected them, revered them. I experienced the beauty, the awe that they inspire but I was not permitted to walk on the sacred grounds of my people. I could not even approach, much less touch these precious earthworks, earthworks that are every bit as impressive as the Pyramids, the Great Wall, Stonehenge, the Acropolis. Built in Ohio by American Indians, these earthworks remain unknown to most of the world."
